Quality Manager - US - Lexington, SC

The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Apex Tool Group is currently looking for a Manager, Quality to support our flagship facility in Lexington, SC. This Manager will lead the efforts to implement integrated systems for managing quality processes. This includes human work factors, logistics, material flow and production data to identify trends and areas requiring quality improvement. This position will provide consultation on complex projects and is a top-level contributor/specialist regarding quality.

The Manager, Quality will report directly to the Sr. Director, Operations and will work closely with a cross-functional Operations Management team and will manage the Quality department.

The Build (Responsibilities)

* Uses lean tools (standard work, visual management, etc.) and advanced quality concepts (FMEA, DMAIC, PPAP, etc.) to continuously improve quality and reduce costs of poor quality.

* Manage the overall Quality Management System per defined standards.

* Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using methodologies such as Kaizen/Six Sigma.

* Work with cross-functional teams (Operations, Purchasing, Engineering) to reduce rejection rates through root cause analysis and countermeasure solutions to quality issues.

* Monitor supplier performance/process capability and drive improvements through relevant Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs)

* Work with Customer Service to manage customer issues to effective resolution.

* Managing and enhancing the effectiveness of the CAPA system.

* Maintain quality system certification (ISO 9001) through successful completion of external and internal audit systems.

* Establish and maintain key departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics.

* Manage the process of documenting, enhancing, and maintaining effective inspections, tests, and calibration systems to assure product compliance.

* Develop, train, direct, coach, evaluate, and lead quality technicians and auditors.

* Review engineering specifications and related information to obtain knowledge regarding manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities affecting plant capacity and efficiency.

* Monitor and addresses issues entered in the corporate CQA (Customer Quality Alert) system.


The Toolbox (Qualifications)

* Four-year degree in an Engineering discipline plus five years or more experience in quality preferred.

* 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering preferred.

* 7-10 years of experience in coaching, teaching and leading technical personnel and complex activities.

* Project management skills and experience.

* Involved in system-wide organizational change and development initiatives.

* Ability to lead cross functional teams.

* Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine cost of quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

* Solid problem solving (analytical) skills.

* Intermediate to advanced experience level with MS Office applications required.

* Experience in lean manufacturing techniques and concepts.

* Experience with SAP a plus.
