Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) is seeking a President's Office Intern who will offer support on critical projects and initiatives while assisting with tasks related to LIRS' Board of Directors and President's Council. The President's Office Intern will report to the Deputy Chief of Staff and serve as a thought-partner and active contributor to research, planning, and preparation for events and meetings pertaining to the President & CEO.

LIRS is looking for candidates who can work 10-12 hours per week.

Headquartered in Baltimore's beautiful Inner Harbor, with offices in Washington, DC, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) is a national faith-based organization with an 80-year history, a budget of $88 million per year, and approximately 80 headquarters staff.

LIRS is widely recognized for its expertise in implementing federal programs on behalf of refugees and migrants living within the borders of the United States. Working with and through partners across the country, LIRS resettles refugees, reunites children with their families or provides loving homes for them, conducts policy advocacy, and pursues humanitarian alternatives to the immigration detention system.

DUTIES

  • Attend internal meetings relating to LIRS' strategic planning, communications, advocacy, and development efforts; take and circulate meeting notes, as needed
  • Create briefing materials for the President & CEO
  • Draft, proofread and edit key correspondence and written deliverables for the President & CEO
  • With the Deputy Chief of Staff and others, manage logistics for events and high-profile principal meetings
  • Conduct prospect and event research to identify possible President's Council members, as well as speaking engagements and opportunities for the President & CEO

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel;
  • Ability to multitask and work both collaboratively and independently;
  • Self-starter with a strategic mindset;
  • Strong writing and analytical skills;
  • Sense of humor appreciated; and
  • Commitment to LIRS's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
